Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about FutureMe
Common Questions
1 How does FutureMe work?
FutureMe is a digital time capsule service that lets you write letters to your future self. simply write your message, choose a delivery date (from 1 day to 50 years in the future), and verify your email address. We securely store your letter and deliver it back to your inbox on the exact date you chose. It's a powerful way to visualize your future, set goals, or preserve memories.
2 Is my letter private?
Yes, absolutely. By default, every letter you write is 100% private and can only be read by you. We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data. You have the option to make your letter "Public" (anonymous), which allows it to be featured in our public gallery for others to read, but this is completely optional and strictly opt-in.
3 Can I edit or delete my letter?
If you create a free account, you gain full control over your letters. You can edit, reschedule, or delete any letter that hasn't been delivered yet. For guest users (without an account), letters cannot be modified after sending to ensure the integrity of the time capsule experience, so we highly recommend creating an account.
4 What if my email changes?
We know a lot can change in 5 or 10 years! If you have a FutureMe account, you can easily update your email address in your profile settings at any time. We also recommend using a personal email address (like Gmail) rather than a work or school address that you might lose access to in the future.
5 Why do I need to verify my email?
Verification is a crucial security step to ensure you actually own the email address you're sending from. This prevents spam, ensures your letter doesn't get lost, and protects your privacy. We will never send your letter until you have clicked the verification link sent to your inbox.
6 Can I send a letter to someone else?
Yes! FutureMe is a beautiful way to send a message to a loved one, child, or friend in the future. You can use it for digital weddings toasts, time-delayed predictions, or messages to your children to read when they are older. Just be sure their email address will still be valid, or use your own and forward it later.
7 Is FutureMe free?
Yes! You can write and send letters to the future completely for free. We believe everyone deserves the chance to reflect on their journey. We also offer Premium memberships for those who want to attach photos, record video messages, or support our mission to keep the service running for decades to come.
8 How much does SMS scheduling cost?
Scheduling an SMS costs a flat $1.00 per message — no surprises, no hidden fees. This payment is non-refundable once your SMS enters the delivery queue. One thing worth knowing: SMS messages are counted in segments. A standard SMS fits 160 characters (using GSM encoding — Latin letters, numbers, basic punctuation). The moment you use any Unicode character — including Georgian script, emoji, or accented letters — the limit drops to 70 characters per segment. So a Georgian message of 140 characters would count as 2 segments, meaning 2 SMS. Each segment is billed separately at $1.00.
